Luckie Marietta District: Governor's Tourism Award Winner
Governor Nathan Deal recognizes the district for outstanding work in collaborating to increase tourism
ATLANTA- The Luckie Marietta District was awarded the Tourism Champion Partnership
Award at the 2011 Governor's Conference on Tourism. Governor Nathan Deal presented the
award during the annual conference, which recognizes several of the state's top tourism
professionals. The Tourism Champion Awards were created in 2003 to acknowledge the support
and guidance given to the state's tourism industry by individuals and organizations who have
taken leadership roles in developing tourism opportunities in communities across the state.
The Luckie Marietta District received the Partnership Award for their alliance, a member-based
initiative, to increase visitation and tourism expenditures to Georgia.
"The Luckie Marietta District joins together the unique and authentic aggregation of both local
and world-class assets, including businesses big and small," said David Marvin, President and
Founder of Legacy Property Group and the man behind the visions of the Luckie Marietta
District. "Each member voluntarily commits their time, services and money to make this area an
unparalleled development project."
Marvin added that the district has grown in two years from nearly 30 members in 2009, to a
thriving combination of upscale accommodations and attractions totaling nearly 60 members in
2011 - making it one of the fastest growing, organic developments in Atlanta and in the U.S.
Carey Rountree, Georgia Aquarium's Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, added, "The
Luckie Marietta District's goal is to connect the businesses in our neighborhood. It has raised
awareness about the rich offering that surrounds Centennial Olympic Park."
In addition to its members, Marvin credits the success of the Luckie Marietta District to the
support the area has received from the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, Central Atlanta
Progress, Downtown Neighborhood Association and the Convention Collection at Centennial
